Nearer My God to Thee – The Piano Guys

Performed here by The Piano Guys, Nearer My God to Thee was penned way back in 1841 by Sarah Flower Adams and has become almost as well known as the sinking of the Titanic.

On that subject, Nearer My God to Thee was reported by a number of survivors as being the last song the ensemble band played as the Titanic was sinking.  It seems fitting as I have heard it sung at a number of funerals though God Be with You Till We Meet Again seems more common in recent years.

The Piano Guys - Nearer My God to Thee

The Piano Guys filmed the above video at Sundance, Utah, described by them as “an incredible place of beauty and raw nature”.  In their description they also wrote, “We hope everyone can find beauty in this music and relate it to how they feel when they experience joy—whether it’s joy from hiking in nature, spending time with family, serving others, or relaxing on a beach. Enjoy!”.  I wish to express likewise.

I trust you’ll enjoy this version as much as I do.

Nearer My God to Thee

Nearer, my God, to thee,
Nearer to thee!
E’en though it be a cross
That raiseth me.
Still all my song shall be
(Chorus)
Nearer my God to thee,
Nearer my God to thee,
Nearer to thee!

Though like the wanderer,
The sun gone down,
Darkness be over me,
My rest a stone,
Yet in my dreams I’d be
(Chorus)
There let the way appear,
Steps unto heav’n;
All that thou sendest me,
In mercy giv’n;
Angels to beckon me
(Chorus)
Then with my waking thoughts
Bright with thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be
(Chorus)
Or if, on joyful wing
Cleaving the sky,
Sun, moon, and stars forgot,
Upward I fly,
Still all my song shall be
